Persons celebrating an Anniversary in June 2010

Roger Klittich is once more at the top of our birthday list, he celebrated his 74th birthday on 3rd of June. Only a fortnight later (17/19 June) the 57th auction of the Klittich-Pfankuch antiquarian bookshop took place, again with a large offer of items/lots in the chess section. For the Laska Evening in the supporting programme we refer to this page.

At the moment South Africa is in the spotlight of all soccer fans, our only KWA representative from this country – and from the whole African continent as well – is still Leonard R. Reitstein: He looked back on 82 years on June 6th. We can only hope that our association will be able to "recruit" additional members from (South)Africa some time.

Our next greetings go to Spain where Maria Carmen Romeo-Pérez celebrated her special day on 11th of June. In addition to our last year's mention we can still remark that her article on the Schacs d'amor manuscript is easily available in the original Spanish via ChessBase/Spanish site: La Valencia literaria del siglo XV, el manuscrito de Schacs d'amor y sus tres autores (published there 26/07/2008).

Larry Rust makes his debut in our column as a new member, he turned 55 on June 26th. He lives in Cleveland, Ohio (enviably!) – right next to the largest public chess library worldwide. In suburban Cleveland he operates a chess center – The House of Chess, supported by the two grandmasters Alex Shabalov and Alex Yermolinsky. His own chess interests focus on openings and players of the second half of the 19th century.

Congratulations!
