In memoriam Uwe Johannes Durst
In memoriam
Uwe Johannes Durst
(November 25, 1934 – August 30, 2011)
On yesterday's Friday we had to receive sad news: Our founding and senior member Uwe J. Durst passed away end of August in his home town Bad Pyrmont after a severe illness. His family has sent us this death notice.
We have met Uwe Durst personally at our foundation meeting (where he is present in the Wolfenbüttel group photo) as well as occasionally at our Brunswick meetings. As a collector and bibliographer he has particularly devoted himself to the recording of the German chess literature, at that time he intended to hand us his handwritten file cards for the integration in our planned database. Unfortunately this cooperation has never been realized.
In the environment of his chess club, the "Hamelner Schachverein e.V. von 1920", Uwe Durst was well-liked as a convivial member and active player. It was only two years ago that he retired from club life due to his poor health. A short portrait of the deceased is given in this obituary published at the club homepage. We will always honor and preserve his memory.
