Persons celebrating an Anniversary
in October 2009
|
Only three birthdays have to be considered this month: Our well-known
Swiss member Alex Crisovan had his special day on October
2nd, he could look back on full nine decades of his life. In our last
year’s column he was still
present with two photos, in the meantime he has also been included (like
numerous other Swiss chess personalities) in Richard Forster’s admirable
commemorative publication 200 Jahre Schach-Gesellschaft Zürich
appearing there with a short biography, an additional photo and a nice
short game (p. 245f.). In his home country his 90th birthday hasn’t
been forgotten as well, in her problem column of the Neue Zürcher
Zeitung (October 3rd) Odette Vollenweider has briefly appreciated
his merits in Swiss chess while Josef Kupper has contributed a dedication
problem: http://static.nzz.ch/...
(pdf file).
Tony Peterson followed only one day later, our English
member celebrated the completion of half a century on the 3rd of October.
His chess antiquarian bookshop, established 1993, is a rich source of
rare and out-of-print items, you may visit his recently updated web site
www.chessbooks.co.uk/.
The recent photo below shows Tony in his bookroom.
Our last greetings go again to the British Isles where our Welsh member
Leonard Skinner celebrated his 81st birthday on October
29th. We didn’t hear of him any more for some time but we hope he
is still in the best of health and will be a member of our association
for still a long time.
Congratulations!
PS: You will find all previous birthday greetings in our archives!
